The Perpetual Blog of Gavin Crossley

Thought, Queries, Rants and Confessions of love

After the brutality of my last post….

I sat over the weekend (I wrote the previous post mid last week) and devised a plan to change my view and potentially my attitude towards life.

Some will tear at this plan for thinking it’s running away from my problem…I consider it a seachange…literally.

I have decide that in 2011, I will travel the entire the year. I will switch of my phone and leave it at home, all commitments to radio, friendships and everything else will be severed. I will be alone, I will have a car and I will a decent some of money as start up capital. I will then get in my car and I will drive wherever my heart contents and all over this great, big continent of ours (if you’re an Australian reading this).

What i’ll need for such a massive trip of life affirming value is (if you leave comments feel free to add stuff):

A decent reliable car

A large lump sum of money to get across the nullabour

An RSA Certifcate…well i’ll need to work, why not in a country town bar…I bet, I can pour a good beer.

My Wits

Clothing

Toiletries

A Sattelite Phone…apparantly there about as cheap as mobiles now?

My wallet

My sense of adventure

I’ll only tell local authorties where I plan to go (just in case I break down or meet up with the dude from Wolfe Creek), then the rest is completely up to me and how I feel on the day. I’ll work in small town, meet locals, make friends, possibly take passengers along with me (for a price or them chipping in for fuel), stay in backpacker hostels and just generally become a drifter/traveller.

The ultimate would be to do this after a lotto win…don’t think 30 million dollars wouldnt fund the trip of a lifetime you wouldnt need more than a two-hundred hundred grand really).

Think of it this way…on a lotto win sum of cash…i’d disappear for 5 years. I’d take in Europe, The US, Africa and South America (the last two would be the last legs when I knew what the fuck I was doing).

So thats the plan…i have details and travel direction…but thats for me to know…and thats it.

2011 will be the best year of my life.

  1. Good for you. Sometimes getting away from it all can really help you figure things out.
